Artist Profile

Michael Cacnio (b. 1969) Michael Cacnio is a Filipino sculptor who works primarily in brass. His works are driven by a genre impulse, depicting archetypal Philippine scenes in his signature aesthetic of organically posed "soft" figurations. Though known for his work in brass, the artist has long experimented with other material, including glass, which lends to an oeuvre of striking material depth. Like Pablo Picasso, Cacnio uses the familiar motifs of genre as a platform for stretching the possibilities of media, forms, and composition. A graduate of the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines, Cacnio is a 2006 TOYM awardee. He has exhibited his works in a wide range of art spaces, museums, and galleries, both locally and internationally.
